Sergeant's Brass Bedplate

This is an example of an item rarely seen to the Royal Leicestershire Regiment - a brass bed plate. Whilst these are seen fairly often bearing the insignia of the Guards regiments, those to the line regiments are much scarcer, the Leicesters especially so.
 
This example dates from the 1920s and was issued to Pte (later Sergeant) William Henry Phillips Hubble. Hubble (left) was a miner before enlisting in the army aged 18 in June 1922. He came from Madeley near Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire. He died at Shrewsbury in April 1939.
